What Is a Rolex DIW Watch? The Complete Guide to DIW Custom Rolex DIW Strap

If you have ever seen a Rolex DIW Watch with a striking carbon fiber case, a rainbow-colored bezel, or a weight that feels impossibly light, you have likely encountered a DIW timepiece.

What is the DiW? DIW = Designa Individual Watches (DiW), is not an official Rolex series. It is a renowned third-party custom watch manufacturer specializing in transforming luxury timepieces—particularly Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Richard Mille—into bold, lightweight, and highly personalized works of art.

In this guide, we will explain what a Rolex DIW Watch is, what makes their Rolex modifications so special, and—most importantly—why the Rolex DIW Strap is a critical part of the ownership experience. We will also show you how to find the perfect custom replacement strap for your Rolex DIW watch.

What Is a Rolex DIW Watch?

A Rolex DIW Watch is a Rolex timepiece that has been fully re-engineered by Designa Individual Watches. DIW is a bespoke watch customization company founded in 2011 by Belgian designer brothers Victor and Morris Rampel. While headquartered in Russia, its influence spans the global luxury watch community.

Unlike aftermarket accessory brands that simply add diamonds or engravings, DIW performs full structural transformations. They replace original metal cases with high-end composite materials, redesign dials, and re-engineer the entire wearing experience.

Their primary goal is to enhance the sportiness of iconic watches while creating styles that appeal to both racing enthusiasts and serious Rolex connoisseurs.

Important Note: DIW is not affiliated with Rolex SA. Any Rolex DIW Watch loses its original manufacturer warranty, though DIW provides its own 7-year international warranty on the customization work.

The Signature Features of a Rolex DIW Watch

DIW modifications are instantly recognizable. Here is what sets them apart:

1. NTPT Carbon Fiber Construction

The most defining feature of a Rolex DIW Watch is the use of NTPT (North Thin Ply Technology) carbon fiber. This high-end material is incredibly resistant, reduces the effects of aging, and is remarkably lightweight.

  • DIW Daytona: Less than 50 grams

  • Rolex DIW GMT Master 2: Less than 60 grams

  • DIW Submariner: Approximately 80 grams

Because of the handcrafted layering process, every Rolex DIW Watch has its own unique carbon texture. No two pieces look exactly the same.

2. Bold, Unique Aesthetics

DIW is not afraid of color. From vibrant “Rainbow” DIW Daytona models to the all-black DIW Submariner and the “Blue Grail” Nautilus, their designs are concise but thoughtful. They transform a classic Rolex into a statement piece that stands out in any collection.

3. Extreme Limited Production

Many DIW projects are limited to just 3 to 10 pieces globally. Some, like the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 “Black Grail,” are limited to only 5 pieces per year. This exclusivity comes at a cost—customization fees often range from €40,000 to over €179,000.

The Rolex DIW Strap: Why It’s Different

When you acquire a Rolex DIW Watch, you are not just buying a watch—you are buying into a unique ecosystem. One of the most common questions from new owners is: “Can I use a standard Rolex strap on my DIW watch?”

The short answer is yes—but with important conditions. Many Rolex DIW carbon fiber cases are designed with a curved-end, 2-pin hole system, but that does not mean you are locked into a single strap type. In practice, a flat-end strap can also work: you simply use one of the two spring bar holes to secure it. This gives DIW owners far more flexibility than many people assume.

That said, the Rolex DIW Strap ecosystem is still different from a standard Rolex band, and understanding the options will help you choose the right setup.

The “2-Pin Hole” Curved End System

Original Rolex cases use a single spring bar hole on each lug. However, Rolex DIW carbon fiber cases are engineered differently. They typically feature two parallel spring bar holes on the side of the case.

To securely attach a strap, a Rolex DIW Strap must have a thick, curved end that houses two spring bars. This “double-pin” design ensures the strap stays firmly in place despite the lightweight, composite case structure.

If you prefer a curved-end look, this is the system to choose. But it is not the only option.

Flat-End Hook and Loop Straps: Another Option for DIW Daytona

Not every DIW watch requires a curved-end strap. For many Rolex DIW Daytona models, a flat-end hook and loop strap is an excellent alternative.

Our custom flat-end Velcro watch band is made to order and compatible with Rolex, Omega, Blancpain, Panerai, IWC, Franck Muller, and other luxury watches that use a flat-end lug design. It is available in lug sizes 18mm, 20mm, 21mm, 22mm, and 24mm, with custom sizes on request.

Key features include:

  • Flat-End Design – fits Rolex DIW Daytona and other flat-lug luxury watches
  • Premium nylon material – durable, lightweight, and available in over 50 colors
  • Secure hook and loop closure – adjustable and easy to fasten
  • Water-resistant calfskin lining – comfortable and sweat-resistant
  • Made to your exact wrist size in cm

This flat-end rolex velcro strap is a great choice if your DIW Daytona has standard spring bar holes or if you prefer to use just one of the two holes on a Rolex DIW carbon case. It offers the same sporty, lightweight feel with a simpler, cleaner attachment.

5-Prong Star Screw Adapters: For Newer 41mm DIW Daytona & Submariner

DIW has also released newer 41mm Daytona and Submariner models that use a 5-prong star screw system to attach the strap. These cases are available in 20mm, 21mm, and 22mm lug widths.

To identify which system your watch uses, you must look at the back of the watch where the strap connects to the case. Some DIW watches have real 5-prong star screws, while the replicas have “fake” star screws that are actually flat-end spring bar connections.

For genuine 5-prong star screw models, the strap does not use spring bar holes at all. Instead, it is secured directly to the case with 5-prong star screws, and a special 5-prong screwdriver is required to remove or install it. This is a completely different mounting system from both the curved-end 2-hole design and the flat-end spring bar design.

We offer a custom curved-end Velcro strap designed specifically for these Rolex Carbon DIW models. This strap features:

  • Screw-in adapter secured by 5-prong star screws – no spring bar holes
  • Fits DIW Rolex Carbon Sea Dweller, Daytona, Speedster, Hunter, and similar models
  • High-density canvas material – won’t get fluffy
  • Available in 20mm, 21mm, and 22mm
  • Colors: Black, Orange, Navy, Blue, Olive Green, and more
  • Adjustable Velcro closure with black buckle included

Important: This strap only fits DIW Carbon watches with genuine 5-prong star screws. It requires a special 5-prong screwdriver for installation. Please check your watch case carefully before ordering.

FAQ: Curved End Straps, Flat End Straps & DIW Rolex Fit

Q: I want a curved end strap. Will this curved end, 2-pin hole strap fit my standard Rolex Daytona? It is not a DIW Carbon watch.

No. The curved end, 2-pin hole strap is designed only for DIW customized cases. DIW carbon cases typically have two spring bar holes on each lug, which is why the strap needs 2 pin holes at the curved end.

For a standard Rolex Daytona, we only offer flat end straps. The curved end strap will not fit a standard Daytona case.

If your goal is a seamless connection between the strap and the watch case, we offer dedicated end-link straps for the Submariner. Once installed, the strap sits flush against the case with no gap. You can click curved end watch band for Rolex Submariner to view them.

Thick curved lug system VS The Flat end strap for Rolex Sub

You are right—there are two different meanings, and this causes a lot of confusion.

1. End-link strap (often called “curved end”)
This type has a metal end piece at the connection point. It is usually thick and curved. Once attached, the strap and the watch case form a seamless fit with no gap. Many people call this a “curved end” strap. The spring bar used here is straight/flat. This type of watch band

2. Curved end strap (true curved end)
This type is a normal, thin strap—only the connection end is curved. The spring bar used here must be a curved spring bar.

If your original watch strap is curved end, you must buy this curved end type.

Curved end vs flat end leather watch strap

No. This is a common misunderstanding.

Curved end and flat end are not just different straps—the watch case itself is also different.

  • On a curved end case, the spring bar holes on the lugs are positioned closer to the dial and deeper inside the case. A curved spring bar is required for proper installation.

  • On a flat end case, the spring bar holes are positioned further outward, and the spring bar is straight/flat.

A flat end strap cannot fit a curved case.
A curved end strap can fit a flat case, but the gap will become wider, not narrower.

So if you want a tighter, more seamless look, switching from flat end to curved end will not solve the problem—it will make it worse.
